Miti expands to Tanzania
Our Miti magazine readers can soon enjoy coverage of Tanzania's tree business

M iti is the most successful and authoritative tree business magazine in East Africa. MITI is used as reference material by foresters and other scientists, farmers, investors, students and all those in the tree, timber and related industries. We published our first Miti magazine back in January 2009 in Kenya. Since then, we have published Miti four times a year and apart from business articles, our magazine has covered news related to afforestation, tree issues, the use of trees, and water management.
In 2017, the management of Better Globe Forestry made the decision to include Tanzania in the coverage of the magazine. In March this year (2018), Jan Vandenabeele, the Editor-in-Chief of Miti magazine, had the pleasure to participate in the Southern Highlands Forestry & Wood Industries Trade Fair in Mafinga, Iringa region of the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. There he was introduced by Prof. Reuben Mwamakimbullah of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to other key stakeholders in the Tanzanian forestry sector, like:
- Tanzanian Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI)
- Tanzanian Tree Seed Agency (TTSA)
- The government with Tanzania Forest Society and Tanzanian Forestry Fund
- The private sector with Tanzanian Tree Growers Association Union, Private Forestry Programme etc.
- The civil society with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), African Forestry, Forestry Development Trust, etc.
Some of those were invited to become members of the Editorial Committee of our Miti magazine for Tanzania. The first official meeting of the Editorial Committee in Tanzania took place in June, and a second one in September. The meeting was set in Morogoro, this being the home of SUA, TTSA, TAFORI and others.
Our next issue of our Miti magazine (#41) will be published in the first quarter of 2019 where Tanzania will be the main theme. We look forward becoming more familiar with the forestry scene in Tanzania, in addition to our already covered Kenya and Uganda.
